Privacy notice
Your nickname and results help your group keep score. Use a nickname rather than your full name. A public leaderboard can be seen by people outside your group. You can ask us for help, a copy of your information, or to delete it.
Operator: Adrian-Nesta Nelson. Updated 12 October 2026.
Who looks after your information
Rankerelo is a free hobby project operated by Adrian-Nesta Nelson, who is the controller responsible for personal information used to run the service. You can contact the operator at support@rankerelo.com. Board organisers also make decisions about the people and results they add; they must tell participants how their information will be used.
Information we use
We use your account identifier, verified primary email and account name; group memberships and roles; player nicknames; match scores, dates and ratings; and activity records. Organisers may add a guest player without that person having an account. Hosting and sign-in providers also process technical information such as IP addresses, device details and security logs. We do not receive your password from Clerk.
Where information comes from
You provide account details through Clerk and information when you use Rankerelo. Group organisers and other participants can provide your player nickname, results and membership information, including a guest-player record even if you have no account. Technical information comes from requests to our hosting and sign-in services. Organisers must explain the group’s use of participant information before adding records.
Google sign-in and support email
If you choose Google sign-in, Google shares basic identity information with Clerk, including your email, name and profile information. Rankerelo uses Clerk’s account identifier, verified primary email and account name; Google sign-in does not give Rankerelo access to your Gmail messages or contacts. If you email support, we receive your sender address, message and any attachments you choose to send. Cloudflare routes mail sent to support@rankerelo.com into Gmail, including forwarding between the operator’s mailboxes. Replies may come from rankerelo.support@gmail.com. Keep messages relevant to your request and do not send passwords or sign-in codes.
Why we use it and our legal bases
We rely on legitimate interests to provide requested sign-in and group access, keep accurate competition records and calculate ratings, protect accounts, troubleshoot problems and answer ordinary support requests. These interests belong to the operator and the groups using the service. We limit information to what the functions need and balance these interests against people’s rights, particularly those of teenagers and guest players. We rely on legal obligation when processing is necessary to comply with statutory information-rights duties or other applicable legal requirements. Accepting the terms is not consent to every use of your information. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests as explained below.
Information needed to use the service
An account identifier and verified primary email are needed to use Rankerelo’s account-only leaderboard features. If your sign-in account still needs email verification, we direct you to account controls to complete it before providing leaderboard access. A player nickname and recorded match result are needed to appear in a group’s standings. Descriptions are optional, and a nickname can be used instead of a real name. Public boards may be viewed without an account. Do not put private or sensitive information in optional fields.
Who can see it
New boards start private and require administrator approval to join. An owner or administrator can make a board public or change its joining settings. Public boards can be viewed by anyone and their names, descriptions, player nicknames, results, ratings and activity may be shared or indexed by search engines. Activity can include account names, which may come from your sign-in profile and differ from your player nickname. Private boards limit standings, results and activity to authorised members; someone with an invitation can see limited board information before joining. Owners and administrators can see account details needed to manage membership, including names and emails. Use a nickname in your account profile as well as your player profile if you do not want your real name in activity. Never add another person’s email, address, school, sensitive information or other private details to a nickname or description.
Services that handle information
Clerk provides authentication and account management. Vercel hosts the website and handles requests and technical logs. Neon stores the application’s PostgreSQL records in AWS Europe West 2 (London). Cloudflare provides domain, DNS and email-routing services; Clerk’s authentication and profile-image services also use Cloudflare security. Google provides Gmail for support and, if you choose it, Google sign-in. These services may use other suppliers to operate their services. We do not sell your personal information or use account and competition records for advertising or behavioural recommendations. Information may also be shared where necessary to comply with law or investigate security or abuse, limited to what is needed.
Processing outside the UK
The London database region does not mean that all information stays in the UK. Authentication, hosting, support email, provider support and security operations may process information in the United States or other countries. Providers publish privacy and transfer terms, which may use adequacy decisions, the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, or contractual safeguards such as standard contractual clauses with the UK Addendum, depending on the service and account. Our prelaunch review of the applicable account terms and transfer arrangements is still in progress. Contact us for the available details or copies of the safeguards relevant to your information.
How long we keep information
Account and membership records are kept while needed for account access and group administration. Competition records are kept while a group needs its history for standings, corrections or disputes; there is no automatic deletion merely because an account or board is inactive. Support messages are kept while handling the request and any necessary follow-up; records needed for a legal duty, security incident or dispute are kept for that purpose and removed when no longer needed. Temporary copies prepared for a data request are removed after secure delivery. The current Neon database recovery-history window is six hours: deleted or changed records may remain in that history until it expires. That window does not limit how long live records are kept or cover all providers’ security logs. Hosting, authentication and email services may retain technical or security information under their applicable terms for operating and protecting their services. You can ask about retention of specific information.
Account deletion and retained results
You can delete your sign-in account through Clerk’s account-management controls, or contact support for help. Rankerelo’s cleanup is designed to remove linked account details, unlink player records, replace their display names with “Deleted player” and remove affected activity text while keeping match results. If an account owned a board, an inaccessible ownership placeholder is kept until support verifies a successor. Recreating an account with the same email does not restore its old access. Cleanup depends on delivery and successful processing of the deletion event; contact support if records remain. The production cleanup test is still part of our prelaunch review. “Deleted player” does not guarantee anonymity: results and group context may still identify someone. Contact us for erasure or an objection to retained history; account deletion does not settle every request. A minimal deleted-account identifier and deletion time are kept while needed to prevent old requests or restored data recreating the identity.
Ratings and automated processing
Elo ratings are calculated from recorded wins, losses or draws, the players’ previous ratings and the group’s configured adjustment factor. A win against a higher-rated player generally increases the rating more than a win against a lower-rated player. Approved results update standings automatically; there is no advertising or recommendation feed based on these ratings. Ratings are a group competition record, not an assessment of your character or an official qualification. Ask an administrator to correct an inaccurate result, or contact us if you need help disputing your information.
Your right to object
You can object to processing based on legitimate interests, including keeping a guest-player record or retaining identifiable competition history. Tell us which information or use you object to and why. We will review your circumstances, including the impact on a young person, and stop or limit the processing where required. Continuing the group’s history is not an automatic reason to refuse a request.
Your choices and rights
You can ask for access, correction, erasure or restriction of your information; object where we rely on legitimate interests; and request portability where applicable. We may need proportionate information to confirm who you are. We normally respond within one calendar month, subject to applicable rules and permitted extensions. You do not need an account to ask about a guest-player record. Contact us if you need help or if you are a parent or carer acting for a child.
Teenagers and parents
Rankerelo is intended for people aged 13 and over, including guest players. Do not create a record for someone under 13. Use a nickname and avoid sharing private information in account names, player names or group descriptions. If you are under 18, ask a trusted adult if you are unsure about joining a group or sharing information. A parent or carer can contact us about a young person’s information, including a guest-player record. We do not claim to verify everyone’s age. If you believe someone under 13 is using the service or their information has been added to a group, contact us so we can review and address it.
Complaints and updates
Please contact the operator if you are concerned about your information. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint. We will update this notice when the service or its data practices change.
Provider information and complaints
Read the published terms and privacy information for Clerk, Vercel, Neon, Cloudflare and Google. You can also raise a concern with the ICO.
